Statement of Work:
Donna Ann Harris is the principal of Heritage Consulting Inc, a Philadelphia-based consulting firm that works in three practice areas: downtown and commercial district revitalization, historic preservation and organizational development. A specific area of interest is historic house museums. She is the author of New Solutions for House Museums to be published by AltaMira Press in spring 2007 which contains a dozen case studies of house museums around the country and in Canada that have successfully made a transition to a new use or user to assure the building’s preservation for the coming generations. Other chapters detail a decision-making methodology, and eight solutions being pioneered by historic sites around the country. During the last two years, Ms. Harris has been consulting with historic house stewards on reuse planning in California and Philadelphia. Prior to starting her firm in 2004, Ms. Harris was state coordinator for the Illinois Main Street program for two years and the manager of the Illinois suburban Main Street program for four years. She has worked for two statewide preservation organizations in New Jersey and Illinois and for a local preservation organization in Philadelphia where she initiated in 1992 the $2.6 million dollar Historic House Museum Challenge Grant Program, funded by The Pew Charitable Trusts to support planning and restoration grants to Philadelphia-area house museums. Ms. Harris earned a Masters degree in Governmental Administration (MPA) from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, and a Master of Science degree in Historic Preservation from Columbia University, NYC. She holds a BA in American Studies and Art History from the State University of New York at Albany.
