Sustaining a Museum

Many museums and heritage organizations are bracing for another year of tight budgets. Although the economy has brightened considerably for 2010, funding from many traditional sources remains depressed or severely compromised.

This section offers a compendium of resources that could be of help. We will add to it as new material comes to light.

Resources

American Association of Museums: Finding Calm in Crisis: A Museum Survival Guide
Looking at the economic forecasts for 2009 does not give one much optimism for the year ahead. Navigating this uncertainty is difficult, but we believe you should not have to weather this storm alone. Now more than ever, AAM is committed to providing the resources you need. We encourage you to use this as an opportunity to focus on your mission, engage your community in creative ways, and make your voice heard about why your museum matters. Together we can not only weather this economic storm, but emerge even stronger.

In this uncertain period in the economic life of our city, state, country, and world, Philanthropy New York is working diligently to inform our members about the steps being taken by both government officials and their fellow grantmakers.

In addition, we are collecting resources and insights from the philanthropic sector to provide our members with knowledge, observations, and advice for funders and the grantees they support.
