Director of Finance

Job Description:
Fort Ticonderoga, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit educational museum located in Ticonderoga, NY, is seeking a Director of Finance. The Director of Finance manages the general business functions of Fort Ticonderoga, works closely with Board of Trustees on financial matters and plays a central role in the museum’s long-range and short-term financial planning. Responsibilities include the preparation of appropriate budgets and financial reports.
Successful candidates should possess the following work experience:
• Strong knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
• Experience with automated financial and accounting reporting systems.
• Significant experience in strategic planning and execution, business analysis and contract issues.
• Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
• Experience with cash flow forecasting and investments.
Job Requirements:
Successful candidates should possess the following attributes and education:
• Strong professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to motivate professionals within department and in other departments to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
• Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.
• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field and 10 years of financial experience, with at least 5 of those years in a senior-level finance or accounting position, is required. Additional qualifications of a Masters Degree in a financial field and/or a CPA are desirable.
• Candidates should have broad-based business background in senior management or executive positions.
• Knowledge and Experience with fund accounting required.
• Experience with non-profit desirable.
• Computer knowledge with the following applications: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Cougar Mountain Accounting Software.
