The Children's Museum of Manhattan is gearing up for its move.
The popular family attraction plans to relocate from W 83rd St to its new home: a historic former church at 361 Central Park West. You can consider it a forthcoming stop along the West Side's Museum Mile—a chance for the kiddos to join you on an uptown art crawl.
"Our expansion responds directly to the increasing demand for the experiences we foster and resources we provide to all New York families, a public need that has grown more urgent over the past year with the resounding impact of the pandemic,” Aileen Hefferren, CMOM’s director and CEO said in a statement.
Today, the NYC kids' museum announced the next phase of its planning. Now that the Landmarks Preservation Commission has approved the design by FXCollaborative, CMOM will work alongside Local Projects to bring engaging exhibits to life. The focus will be on creativity, wellness, the environment, science and world cultures.
"Our new building project will bring an iconic landmark back to life in service of the community and New York City children. It is exciting to be moving into this next phase of planning for our new home, with the addition of Local Projects to our project team," Matt Messinger, Co-Chair of CMOM’s Board of Directors, said.
