The Museum Association of New York invites expressions of interest in serving on its member-led Board of Directors for the 2027–2029 term.
Following years of MANY advocacy, the New York Study of Public and Private Museums was published in August 2026. For the first time, we have a shared statewide picture of this ecosystem's dynamism and what it takes to sustain it. The findings make clear that strengthening New York's museums will require not only additional investment, but systems of support designed around the realities of institutions of different sizes and capacities.
Now we have the opportunity to use that knowledge to bring institutions, policymakers, funders, and communities together around the investment and stronger statewide systems that will allow New York's museums—and the communities they serve—to thrive for generations.
MANY's work ahead includes free virtual learning programs, regional meet-ups, our annual conference, and relaunching the NY Museums Institute in partnership with Syracuse University and the Sagamore Institute. To strengthen support for museums across the state, we collaborate with New York's elected officials and public agencies.
Alongside a small executive staff, the Board brings the experience and perspective of New York's museum community to decisions about MANY's priorities and future. Members serve renewable three-year terms. Please see the attached guidelines for information about Board responsibilities, current recruitment priorities, and the invitation process.
Express interest in serving on MANY's Board of Directors.
Submissions must be received by November 30, 2026.
