Pre-conference Workshop: Itty Bitty Learning: Engaging youngest audiences in science, art, and gardens

Location: The Johnson Museum of Art

Time: 1 - 4 PM

Join three Ithaca institutions to get hands-on with early childhood learning and play! In this fun, interactive, materials-rich workshop participants will explore early childhood learning from the perspective of an art museum, a science center, and a children’s garden. The workshop will feature a tour, in-depth presentations, activities, and take-home resources.

        What to expect:

        Participants will learn from professionals at the Sciencenter, Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, and the Ithaca Children's Garden about each of their philosophies around early childhood learning. Attendees will have the opportunity to workshop how they can engage young children at their own institutions.

        Presenters:

        Annie Gordon, Education Program Director, Sciencenter

        Annie has been working at the Sciencenter for 6 years. She works closely with local organizations to provide STEM learning to children and families.

        Kelsey Brewster, Education Director, Ithaca Children's Garden

        Kelsey joined Ithaca Children’s Garden in Fall of 2020 as a Preschool Co-Lead. She enjoyed 3 years of running the program. She became Education Director in Spring of 2024 and is continuing her passion for leading accessible outdoor programs.

        Grace Heath, Preschool Lead, Ithaca Children's Garden

        Grace joined Ithaca Children’s Garden in Summer of 2021 as a summer camp counselor and then took on After School co-lead the following Fall. She moved to Preschool Lead in Spring of 2024. Grace enjoys witnessing the kids engage in play and setting up invitations to support that play.

        Wendy Kenigsberg, Assistant for School Programs, Johnson Museum of Art

        Wendy Kenigsberg is an Assistant for School Programs at the Johnson Museum of Art. She earned a BFA in graphic design from RIT, and an MAT from RISD. Combining teaching with studio projects is her favorite way to connect with students of all ages.



        Pre-Conference Workshop Cancellation Policy

        If for any reason, MANY cancels a pre-conference workshop, we will issue you a full refund. 


        If you cancel your registration before March 31, that request must be made in writing via email to conference@nysmuseums.org. We will refund you the full amount of your registration, minus a $15 administrative fee. 


        Refunds requested after March 31 will not be granted, including requests made based on absence due to illness, late arrival and/or weather conditions. No refunds will be issued on special event tickets at any point due to restaurants and caterers requiring payment in advance; you are welcome to give or sell them to a colleague attending the conference.

        Video/Photography Policy

        By registering for and attending our Annual Conference "Cultivating Community: Looking In, Reaching Out" you grant the Museum Association of New York (MANY) and its authorized representatives permission to film, photograph, or otherwise record your participation in the conference and associated special events.
