Virtual Tour—NYS Capitol Building

Tours of the New York State Capitol and the Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller Empire State Plaza are organized by the New York State Office of General Services’ department of Curatorial and Visitor Services. Many visitors are unaware that OGS also maintains one of the largest public modern art collections in the country, several exhibit spaces, and the New York State Governors Executive Mansion. In this Virtual Visit we will guide you through a survey of the history, art, and architecture of the Capitol and Empire State Plaza.

Highlights include:

  • The Million Dollar Staircase and Senate Chamber, designed by H. H. Richardson
  • The New York Assembly Chamber, designed by Leopold Eidlitz
  • The Flag Room, maintained in collaboration with the New York State Military Museum
  • The Executive Mansion, home to New York’s Governors since 1875
  • The Nelson A. Rockefeller Empire State Plaza Art Collection
