Design & The Olympic Winter Games: A New Live Virtual Field Trip for Classrooms

About: Join us for an engaging session and learn how the Lake Placid Olympic Museum (LPOM) created its first live virtual field trip for schools–extending our reach and giving voice to our unique collection. During this session, you will participate in a hands-on collaborative brainstorming activity, while also “getting a taste” of Design and the Olympic Winter Games with a quick 10-minute live virtual field trip hosted by the LPOM education team–straight from the LPOM to session participants! This will be an interactive session you won’t want to miss!

Presenters:

Jen Hesseltine, K12 Education Consultant & Strategist, MANY Industry Partner, Jen Hesseltine Education Consulting

Jen Hesseltine is a former teacher and now an education consultant who provides professional development, curriculum writing, and grant coordination services to both public and private education organizations. Jen is extremely passionate about connecting K12 students to community organizations at the edge of schools and classrooms, including museums, historical societies, community maker spaces and other centers for children and youth. Jen is a National Geographic Certified Educator, certified NYS MWBE, and MANY Industry Partner.

Julia Herman, Collections Manager, LPOM, Lake Placid Olympic Museum

Julia Herman is the Collections Manager at the Lake Placid Olympic Museum (LPOM). Julia graduated from Western Michigan University in 2020 with a BA in Public History and went on to complete a Master of Arts in Museum Studies at Johns Hopkins University. On any given day, you will find Julia wearing a variety of hats at the LPOM, including completing collections projects, digitizing collection records, working on research requests, handling media requests, delivering educational and community programming, managing the museum’s social media, carrying out a variety of administrative duties, and planning and carrying out field trips.

Conference Cancellation Policy

If for any reason, MANY cancels the conference, we will issue you a full refund. 

If you cancel your registration before Monday April 1, that request must be made in writing via email to conference@nysmuseums.org. We will refund you the full amount of your registration, minus a $45 administrative fee. 

Refunds requested after April 1 will not be granted, including requests made based on absence due to illness, late arrival and/or weather conditions. No refunds will be issued on special event tickets at any point due to restaurants and caterers requiring payment in advance.

Special event ticket purchases are non-refundable; restaurants and caterers require payment in advance. you are welcome to give or sell them to a colleague attending the conference. Please notify MANY staff in advance of the conference regarding any transfer of special event tickets.

Video/Photography Policy

By registering for and attending our Annual Conference "Giving Voice to Value" you grant the Museum Association of New York (MANY) and its authorized representatives permission to film, photograph, or otherwise record your participation in the conference and associated special events.


You further agree that such images, photographs, and recordings may be used by MANY without your prior approval in any form and for any lawful purpose including, without limitation, promoting MANY. Such use will not entitle you to any credit or compensation.


You release MANY, its officers, and employees from any liability connected with the use of any image, photograph, or recording taken during MANY's Annual Conference and associated special events.
