    The Museum of Art is one of the nation’s most significant mid-sized art museums, with a top collection of American art. Munson offers more than 100 community art classes and workshops throughout the year, taught by working artists in studios shared by Pratt Munson College of Art and Design. 

    Job Description:

    The Studio Technician – Photography and Printmaking will maintain and oversee the Photography equipment and space and the maintenance and upkeep of Printmaking presses and equipment. This is a non-faculty position that works under the day-to-day direction of the Professors of Photography and Printmaking and reports to the Academic Chair. This position works 15 hours per week (Photography 9 hours; Printmaking 6 hours weekly) for a 32 academic week schedule.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    Photography

    • Maintain and oversee photography equipment and studio for both analog and digital processes, including a lighting studio.
    • Ensure proper handling and disposal of photographic processing chemicals.
    • Assist Photography faculty in training students on proper equipment usage and care.
    • Provide assistance and guidance to students in the photography studio.
    • Assist IT department in equipment inventory management.


    Printmaking
    • Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of presses and other printmaking equipment and tools.
    • Supported printmaking processes include; intaglio, relief, and silkscreen.
    • Organize supplies inventory.
    • Assist Printmaking faculty in training students on proper equipment usage and care.
    • Provide assistance and guidance to students in the printmaking studio.


    Other responsibilities or equipment maintenance

    Prepares fiscal documents and forms

    May also be requested to perform other duties as required.     



    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
    • BFA or MFA in a Photography or Printmaking area, with experience in technical workings of Photography or Printmaking fields.
    • Effective organizational and time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
    • Able to work independently and follow through on all assignments with minimal direction.
    • Excellent communication skills and polished and professional interpersonal skills to interact with Munson staff and faculty, and students.
    • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to gather information, sort, draft, and provide analysis for budgetary and purchasing projects.
    • Ability to read budget reports and accurately prepare fiscal documents and forms.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Studio Technician – Photography and Printmaking does not have direct responsibilities for hiring, termination, performance appraisals or performance counseling.



    COMPUTER MACHINE & EQUIPMENT SKILLS:

    Basic personal computer skills that include the ability to send/receive e-mail messages, post information to a database or spreadsheet, and perform basic word processing, bookkeeping, and/or data entry.  Basic knowledge/use of computer, printer, photocopier, phone system, fax machine, and scanner.  Requires experience with Google Suite, Adobe Photoshop, and Epson Large Format Printers.

    Salary range: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
