    About the Institution: 

    Founded in 2004, the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame is a 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to the idea that Long Island’s musical heritage is an important resource to be celebrated and preserved for future generations. The organization, which encompasses New York State’s Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, and Kings (Brooklyn) Counties, was created as a place of community that inspires and explores Long Island music in all its forms. To date, the organization has inducted more than 100 musicians and music industry executives, and also offers education programs and scholarships to Long Island students, sponsors the Long Island Sound Award, and features traveling educational exhibits, including a state-of-the-art mobile museum.

    Job Description

    3 days/24-30 hours per week, flexible
    The candidate should have excellent leadership, managerial, budgetary, fund raising, program development and literacy skills.

    The organization opened an 8800 square-foot two-story Hall of Fame Museum in Stony Brook Village in November 2022, which has become one of the most popular cultural destinations on Long Island. It currently features the acclaimed Billy Joel - My Life exhibit as well as a surround sound theater and Hall of Fame room featuring memorabilia from over 100 inductees.
    It has been named one of the Top 10 Music Hall of Fames in the US by the Grammy Awards and the top featured destination on Long Island from I ❤️ New York/NY Tourism.

    Mission Statement: “To celebrate the rich music and entertainment heritage of Long Island and support music and arts education for future generations.”


    The Executive Director has the following responsibilities:

    BOARD OF TRUSTEES

    • Work closely with the Board on business and program agendas.
    • Serve as a non-voting member of the Board and its committees.
    • Prepare Executive Director report for bi-monthly Board meetings.

    FINANCIAL
    • Maintain and build financial support from NY State, Suffolk County and local government agencies.
    • Manage and be responsible for fundraising activities, write grants, oversee grant management.
    • Attract new sources of support from corporations, businesses, and other private sector entities through networking and outreach.
    • Prepare an annual budget with the Board, manage cash flow, oversee all expenditures.
    • Prepare an annual report.
    • Maintain financial oversight with the Bookkeeper and accounting firm.

    PROGRAMS
    • Work with the creative director and Chairman developing exhibitions and broadening programs relating to our mission.
    • Engage with Long Island cultural organizations.
    • Develop rotating exhibits with the Creative Director.
    • Serve as editor of our newsletter.
    • Promote interest through our website, brochures, press releases, and social media.
    • Note: proficiency in social media and basic graphic skills a plus

    STAFF MANAGEMENT
    • Assist general manager: Recruit, train and supervise staff, tour guides, volunteers, and Interns.
    • Work with office staff.
    • Work with the Creative Director to manage collections.

    CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

    BA Degree.
    • 3 years’ experience in nonprofit management and finance.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and social media platforms.
    • Conscientious, industrious, enjoy social activities.
    • Ability to foster positive relationships with educators, community members and creative stakeholders.
    • Appreciation of music and entertainment.
    • Availability to work on evenings and weekends (events, meetings, emergency security on-call).

    COMPENSATION PACKAGE
    Compensation: Commensurate with experience
    Part time: 3 days/24-30 hours per week, flexible
