About the Institution:
The Curatorial Department within the Office of General Services, oversees historic objects and artworks, including those in the Executive Mansion, the NY State Capitol, and the Empire State Plaza Art Collection. Curated, interpretive exhibits are regularly developed for display in the Capitol, on the Concourse, and in the Vietnam Memorial gallery space in the Abrams Justice Building.
Job Description:
The specific focus of this position is on history, historic collections, New York history, as well as fine art and furnishings.
- Oversees maintenance of insurance and financial records, schedules, resources, and photographic documentation.
- Assists the Manager of Curatorial & Visitor Services with the stewardship of historic collections, the design and installation of exhibits, audiovisual programs and special events, and monitors artwork, and historic objects.
- Recommends methods of display and provides historical context for guided tours to determine which processes require change and actions that will improve the program, and enhance the visitor experience.
- Assist in the conservation and preservation of paintings, sculptures, and historic objects by
- monitoring condition, noting damage or deterioration. Research available methods and costs of repair and renovation and prepare contacts for the maintenance and renovation.
- Performs site-work and research at the Executive Mansion involving location, identification, and assessment of historic artifacts, furnishings, and objects of historic and/or aesthetic interest or significance, including location and study of documents related to collections, exhibits, and historic restorations of items.
- Exhibition development, loan processing, and curation of collections.
- Occasionally compose and deliver lectures, and write articles and releases for press and publication.
- Prepare and lead special historic tours.
- Correspond to inquiries regarding historical background and context, press inquiries, and assist the PIO with inquiries related to historical background, and otherwise engage in educational and informational activities related to the assigned field(s).
- Develop Capitol tours and programs.
- Perform a full range of supervisory duties.

Position Type: Full-Time
Salary range: $72,032 to $91,381 annually
